Minnesota Wild: Learning The Ropes
Saint Paul, Minnesota is the home of one of the youngest franchises in the NHL: the Minnesota Wild. Founded in 2000, the team hosts home games at the Xcel Energy Center. The stadium is owned by the state and boasts four levels. Its seating capacity is a generous 18,064 but the attendance at the stadium has exceeded that number in the past. For example, 19,398 fans were on hand to watch the Wild's first post-lockout game on October 5, 2005. During the past few years, the Xcel Energy Center has been used for a number of other events, including hosting the rock band The Police and Senator John McCain's first speech as the Republican nominee for the Presidency in 2008.
