Chicago Blackhawks: The Perpetual Struggle
Despite being one of the six teams that founded the NHL, the Chicago Blackhawks have only managed to win three Stanley Cups. Two of those titles were earned during the 1930's while they won their third and last title in 1960's. Since its inception, the franchise has rarely been considered a formidable force on the ice. That being said, fans of the team remain hopeful, realizing that adding a few key players could make the difference.
Struggling For Respect
During the late 1920's, the Blackhawks were widely thought to be the worst franchise in the NHL. That description would haunt them until 1938, when they pushed their way into the Stanley Cup Finals and triumphed over the Toronto Maple Leafs. They arrived at the Finals with a dismal seasonal record and stunned other franchises with their victory. Unfortunately, the next several years would show few signs of a resurgence.
Toward the end of the 1950's, the Blackhawks brought a number of promising players aboard. By 1960, the franchise had once again won the Finals. Even though the team failed to earn the title for the rest of the decade, they had reminded other teams of their potential. The 1970's marked an expansion period for the team. Sadly, the following two decades would provide little relief for the struggling team.
In 2004, ESPN called the Chicago Blackhawks the "worst franchise in professional sports." Even their long-suffering fans had begun to migrate away from the team. Their struggle for respect continues to this day.
Visiting The United Center
The Blackhawks play all of their home games at the United Center in Chicago. The indoor stadium was constructed in 1992 for $175 million and seats 20,500 hockey fans. The venue's acoustics have been designed to magnify the noise levels within the arena, providing an atmosphere that is reminiscent of now demolished Chicago Stadium.
The coming season has been coined the "Return To Pride" as the franchise hopes to rekindle the passion of the team and the imaginations of their fans. To watch the Blackhawks in action, purchase your seats before the event. Tickets can be bought for preseason and regular season games for as little as $15.
